Pioneer 10 was launched in 1972. Later that year it made numerous flybys of Jupiter and its Moons. In 1983 it had passed the orbit of Pluto and carried on sailing into deep space. On this day, ten years ago, Earth lost all contact with the probe, its final trajectory thought to take it in the direction of the star Aldebaran. If it made it that far, it would be two million years old and the human race will have probably long since become extinct.
